A sheltered entrance without a heavy visual barrier

A glass canopy protects the entrance zone or part of a terrace while leaving the facade visible. The solution is shaped around the width of the passage, the position of the door, the fall and the way water is carried away from the facade. Because the surface is transparent, the canopy does not needlessly darken the space behind the opening and sits easily within the existing architecture.

Before proposing anything we inspect the wall or other load-bearing substrate, the finished facade, the access for anchoring and the room available for fitting. Exposure to wind, possible snow and rainfall differs from location to location. Sizing the glass, the brackets and the fixings therefore calls for an assessment of the actual span and the expected loads, without general promises that would hold for every building.

Material and construction

The intended glass specifications are Tempered laminated glass 8+8 mm · Tempered laminated glass 10+10 mm. Brackets and visible elements are available in stainless steel · anodised aluminium · powder coating in RAL colours. The shape of the glass, the positions of the fixings and the edges are confirmed before production, to the final survey.

We also work out the fall and the path of the water, so that rainfall is not directed towards the door or an unwanted part of the facade. Where there is external lighting, blinds or services, their positions are taken into the discussion about geometry. The substrate has to be suitable for the intended fixing, which we check at the building before final confirmation. Every part of the canopy then forms one coherent, tidy whole.

How it works

  1. Send us a photograph of the whole entrance or terrace and approximate measurements.
  2. On site we check the substrate, the facade layers, the span and the access conditions.
  3. We confirm the shape, the support method, the finish and the drainage details.
  4. We arrange the fitting and make a final check of the joints, the fall and the edges.

Frequently asked questions

Will a glass canopy withstand wind and snow?

Dimensions, supports and fixings are assessed against the position, the span and the expected loads of the particular building; there is no single design for every location.

Which glass is used for a canopy?

For canopies the intended glass specifications are Tempered laminated glass 8+8 mm · Tempered laminated glass 10+10 mm. The final choice is tied to the span, the supports and the project assessment.

Which bracket finishes are available?

The available finishes are stainless steel · anodised aluminium · powder coating in RAL colours, and the choice is matched to the facade, the joinery and how exposed the building is.
